Overview: This is a stop motion I've created based on the folktale The Fountain of Youth. The best part about this project is that I was able to take a story and add my own personality to it. The story starts with an older gentleman named Leon. Leon ran into a fountain that reversed people's ages within minutes. Out of desperation, Leon jumps into the water and regrets it immediately once he realized he was getting too young.
Software: AfterEffects & Premier Pro
Design Process
The process started with a storyboard. The story I came up with is a little different from what I came up with for the final product. One of the most significant moments I took out from the storyboard was when Leon pick up the unique sunglasses. I shortened the story so the video wouldn't be too long. In the storyboard, Leon gets younger until he turns into a toddler. Instead, for the final I decided to have him just stop at being an infant.
After coming up with the storyboard I dived straight into developing the characters in Adobe illustrator. My idea was to print and cut them out on thick durable paper to avoid shadows from the paper curling up.
I printed my characters on card stock paper for durability. After I finished cutting out the characters, I used speaker wire and tape to put them together, so I can move the pieces while keeping them together for easier movement.
About 400 photos later, I transitioned over to AfterEffects to import the photos then Primer Pro to add sound fx and background music.
