Overview:  This is a children's book based on my version of the story of Humpty Dumpty. I love the idea of the character. I believe it's humorous and easy to develop an original version of the character. I am also a fan of Doctor Seuss's books, so I plan to incorporate some of the books' styles. My target audience is primarily children, but it may be appropriate for adults to feel a bit nostalgic.
Software: Procreate, Illustrator & InDesign
Design Process
Here is the storyboard I've created in Procreate for the storybook. Each thumbnail represents a spread (two pages). My idea is to have the same style as the book "No David." I admire the illustration and text ratio. Easy to read and an excellent way for children to enjoy the illustrations.
After figuring out the story's sequences, I continued to work on the spreads of the storybook in Adobe Illustrator. Each spread represents two pages in the book. The images to the right were the initial design for the spreads.
After receiving some feedback on my first three spreads, I changed them a little and worked on the rest of the pages. I changed the face of the Humpty Dumpty character and made him shaped more like an egg. I gave the backgrounds more depth and created more objects around the character. I also added orange juice in the cup on page 12.
Once I decided on a solid design style, I continued to finalize the designs for all 12 pages, front & back covers, title page, and end pages, then transition to Adobe Indesign to insert the text and publish it as a pdf.
