Overview: This series of cover art is created for various famous and local music artists and custom playlists. We live in a world where we stream most of our music, and the cover art is significant for music promotion & distribution. When someone streams an artist's song/album or playlist, one of the first features they acknowledge is the cover art. Most artists and DJs promote their music on social media, and one of the leading detail they share on their posts is the cover art to their project. I fell in love with creating album covers when I recreated the cover for Young Thug's album "Jeffery." I had the ability to express my point of view of an artist's identity.
Software: Photoshop
Album Name: "Jeffery" by Young Thug
I've recreated the album cover for "Jeffery" by Young Thug. Young Thug is my favorite music artist and this album is one of my favorites. The artist opened up to his fans and expressed his point of view on how someone should dress or act, giving others the confidence to be themselves and not care what others think. During a time when it was too "feminine" for a male to wear a dress, Young Thug expressed his feelings by wearing a dress on his 2nd studio album as some critics bashed him. However, this public stunt encourage others including other male music artist such a Jaden and A$AP Rocky to wear a dress. This cover shows Young Thug being lifted with praise by the individuals who look up to him as he embrace his personality. I utilized the oil paint effect in photoshop to give the cover texture and to give the sense of painting a picture of a movement.
For the back cover, I was able to show more of the rugged background and a side view of the artist blended with paint dripping from the top to express the trending term "slime" that started from the artist. I choose an elegant cursive font for the track list to cohere with the style of the artist's wardrobe.
Album Name: "Alastair" by Alastair
This cover was created for a local artist from Ephrata, PA. named Alastair. Alastair is a producer/songwriter that creates EDM, R&B, Gospel music. Alastair is making an album where he produces and writes all the songs to release a project to tell his unique life experience. For this cover, my goal was to capture the listeners' eagerness and make them want to get to know the artist. The cover's motion is to display the songs' emotion, and covering the artist's eyes with his name is to give a sense of identification.
Here is a variation of the cover. I used the same photo of the artist, but the listeners can recognize the artist's face on this cover. I choose to add different colors of paint dripping down blended with a sky's background for a complex style of design. My goal was to express the diversity of sound in this album. Making the artist black and white was my way of creating a dramatic effect to the background, hopefully capturing the listeners' eye.
